At this time of year we hear Christmas songs and hymns with the words “Gloria in Excelsis Deo”, which means glory to God in the highest.
These words from scripture show us that the angels recognized the glory and majesty of God. In this familiar passage the angels were telling the shepherds about the birth of Jesus.
The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."Luke 2:10-14
We can see in these verses that the angels were praising and worshiping God, because of His glory and majesty. Like the angels we also should recognize God’s majesty and glory. Like the angels we were made to worship God. During this Christmas season we should praise and worship God and thank Him for the awesome grace and mercy He has shown us through the birth of Jesus.
Gloria in excelsis deo!!
